About Us
Kimberlite German Shepherds
Welcome to Kimberlite Shepherds on the web. I have been loved by and in love with German Shepherd Dogs for more than 40 years. My kennel name, Kimberlite, is a reference to my name as well as the name of a rock in South Africa where diamonds are found. I breed sparingly (hence the "Lite") but feel the dogs that I breed are "diamonds in the rough." They are all truly gems to me. This is my hobby, but even more importantly, this is my passion.
I am or have been active in AKC conformation shows, agility, herding and rally, and have titled dogs in all those venues. I am a member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of North Georgia and the German Shepherd Dog Club of America (GSDCA), where I have been active on several National committees including current editor of the GSDCA Red Book.
I bred my first litter in 1999, then took an 8 year break. My intention now is to breed one or two litters per year, opting for quality over quantity. I breed to produce dogs that can succeed in AKC conformation shows by coming as close as possible to the AKC Standard, but even the best bred puppy does not always turn out to be a show dog. So I always do my utmost to ensure that my puppies have excellent temperaments and are well socialized to be appropriate for family companions. All puppies are sold with a health guarantee and I am a signer of the GSDCA Breeder's Code of Ethics and an AKC Breeder of Merit. My breeding animals are health screened by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and many have performance titles as testimony to their intelligence and trainability.
A word about "German versus American" German Shepherd Dogs... you may see web sites that tout GSDs imported from Germany as "the total dog" or "true German Shepherds" and many even contain text that bash our American dogs. Their dogs are better - because they say so - huh? Here in the United States we have emphasized the beauty of the German Shepherd's flying trot over bite work. That does not make our dogs any less total, or any less true. At Kimberlite - we select for the best aspects of the German Shepherd as show dog, performance dog, or family companion.
